SPELLING BEE FINALS

Summer, a sixth grade all-school Finalist

Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students competed against each Other
The school administration did a fine job of applying the National Spelling Bee Rules

Summer received a trophy and a Certificate for a job well Done

Mom was proud of Summer's Effort

Summer is an excellent Speller
The word that stumped her was "auburn." She said she drew a total blank when she heard the Word
Summer is always a winner in my Estimation

Aubrey was released from class to support her Sister

Macy showed us her penguin which was on display outside the Office

After the Bee, we picked up Parker at school and all went for Yogurt

How lovely it is to live near enough to this family to be able to accept an invitation to attend a spelling bee, a dance recital or a soccer or football Game
Alyson and I had lunch at the Paradise Bakery before the Bee and treated ourselves to a slice of Carrot Cake.....it was Fabulous!
Thanks, Alyson

UTAHNS LOVE THEIR RECREATION

Deer Creek Reservoir

These hardy folks are ice fishing and were one of three other parties. However, on the weekend this reservoir is jammed with people. They set up little houses, have stoves, and sit around on folding chairs while they wait for the big one. As soon as the ice is four inches thick (that's right, four inches, not four feet) they are setting up for a day of fishing. That large orange ended thing is an ice auger for drilling a hole in the ice about 12 inches across. They are many meters from the shore and some even close to the middle of the reservoir.

Thought that this was a Golden Eagle, but the GE does not have a caramel colored Breast

The smooth white beauty of Deer Creek Reservoir

The Heber Creeper chugs along on rails just above the waterline on that flat Area

HOMES AND BARN IN MIDWAY, UTAH

Early Utah Home
Notice the fretwork below the Roof

Midway is still very much a rural Town
It is still possible to have a cow on your property in downtown Midway
This barn is less than 1/2 mile off the main Street
The people of Midway work diligently to safeguard their rural way of Life

Early Cabin
Looks like it has had some Restoration

Chuck enjoys playing golf in Midway at Wasatch Golf Course, Soldier Hollow and at the Homestead. All three are excellent courses and have great programs for seniors. Two of our favorite restuarants are in Midway....Blue Boar Inn for breakfast and The Gallaria for pizza. The eastern side of the Wasatch Mountain Range is in Midway's backyard. It is possible to travel over Guardsman Pass and into Park City by dirt road from Midway. One can hike, 4-wheel, and even travel by truck over these mountains on a dirt road and into the Salt Lake Valley. Those who live in this area are truly blessed by its beauty.

PROVO....THE EARLY YEARS

Provo Tabernacle
Built by the Mormon Church and used for worship, concerts, and public Forums
Constructed in the late 1800s

Destroyed by fire in December of 2010

Crews have stabilized the structure and are working to determine the cause of the Fire

Citizens of Utah hope that the building will be Rebuilt

1961
The front door to my dormatory as an 18 yr old Freshman
This building is no longer used as a Dorm

The oak door above was the main entrance in 1961. It was during this time that I was introduced to Charles A. Ellis II

Old Brigham Young Academy
Presently, part of the Provo City Library System
Statue of Brigham Young

Old BYU Women's GYM built in 1912
I never darkened this door when I was at BYU
I took tennis, canoeing, and ???
No gym Classes
What an insult to now be used as a clothing Store

Yesterday, Mary and I took a spin around local Provo haunts. She has a new Canon Camera and I am encouraging her to join the blogging world. She is a crackerjack photographer and I know we could learn much from her photos. She took a series of shots out by Utah Lake, so we'll hope that they show up on her blog, soon. I was driving, so Mary hoped out of the car and took shots of the Tabernacle and BYU High for me. Everyone in this part of Utah is devastated by the destruction of the Tabernacle.

SUNDAY LUNCH

Chuck and I joined Steven's Family for Lunch on Sunday and caught up on their latest Activities

Summer

Summer will be representing the 6th Grade in her school's Spelling Bee this Month

Aubrey

On Feb 1, Aubrey will be performing with her dance company at the Rose Wagner Theater in Salt Lake City

Hopefully, she will never need them, but she sure looks cute wearing my Glasses

Macy

Macy is enjoying the activities of Kindergarten

Steven

Alyson and Parker

Parker recently advanced in the Scouting program to Star and is planning his Eagle Project

All of these shots were taken from a distance of a few inches to several feet from inside a booth for eight people at Texas Roadhouse
This restaurant is our new "go to" Place. We love the rolls and the 6 oz sirloin Steak
The double blooming onion is a great appetizer and is enough for eight People
I highly recommend this Restaurant
