Football is a mystery to me.  Two teams.....eleven players on each team......throwing, catching, kicking, pushing, tackling, and chest bumping.  The clock starts....the clock stops....  Fifteen minutes seems like an hour.  And then, you see someone you know on the field...in position to receive the pass.....your heart beats faster.....he catches the ball and runs for the end zone.....moving this way and that.  Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes not, but when it does go your way, an emotion of pure pleasure and satisfaction surges through your body.  You are happy for him and for his family, especially for his dad, who is getting such a kick out of all of this.  It seems like just last year that this dad was playing this same game. This dad sits by his dad and they discuss the play....what happened.....what could have happened....what should have happened.  All around you men and even some women are cheering or second guessing, the coach, the quarterback, the offensive line or the defensive line.....everyone has an opinion.  Those, such as myself, are generally sitting quietly and observing those around them...the woman with the cute puffy jacket....and the obvious blond hair extensions....trying to figure out who belongs to whom....determining why the person in front of them is standing longer than is necessary.
And then......Chuck turns to me and says that Parker is in position to receive the pass......the ball is thrown......he makes the catch and is running for the end zone.  Everyone is standing.....screaming... clapping and congratulating when the announcer proclaims a touchdown has been made by the

                       Cougar's Wide Receiver Parker Ellis.

And then.....you understand.....It's PERSONAL!   Oh, the sweet sound of the name of the one you love!

THANKS PARKER FOR A GREAT SEASON OF FOOTBALL!
LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR.

*Summer....where were you? Oh! That's right.  You are living your own life, filled with your own friends, and making your own decisions. I did see you from time to time at the games.....flashing by in a group of friends....hair flying....enjoying the freedom of being a 15 year old high school student.  XO
