CAMPING ON THE OREGON TRAIL........GLENN'S FERRY, IDAHO




 The Oregon Trail crosses the Snake River

In 1836 pioneers headed to the Oregon territory knew that if they were unable to ford the Snake River that the trail north was a much longer Route

WESTWARD HO!!!!!







Conestoga Wagon

Those traveling the Oregon Trail in 1842 were advised by
Joseph E. Ware to supply their wagon with the following items:

824 lbs. of flour                                  160 lbs. of sugar
725 lbs. of bacon                                75 lbs. of coffee 
200 lbs. of lard                                    200 lbs. of beans
135 lbs. of apples or peaches               25 lbs. of salt
 bicarbonate of soda                               pepper

tin pans, spoons, coffee pot, camp kettle, and knifes
wagon, stock and harnesses

The total cost of all of the above.....$220.78









Only the  very young, the very old or the very sick rode in these wagons.
Most walked all the way to Oregon
The wagons were filled with the supplies they would need along the trail and after they arrived in Oregon
