City Hall is the crown jewel of the downtown Civic Center. The civic center is buillt on a square with the Pasadena Public Library at a right angle to city hall on Walnut St. The Pasadena Civic auditorium is to the south on Green Street facing the library. Various other city and county buildings are on the square.  All of these buildings reflect the same architectural style as city hall.

Twenty + years ago a downtown shopping mall was built on Colorado Blvd. which blocked the view of the Civic Auditorium from the Civic Center square.  People were unhappy about the blocked view.  5 to 10 years ago the center of the mall was torn down and an outdoor space was created to rejoin the auditorium to the city hall square.  Not perfect, but better than before.
