Montana
Big Sky Country
Heading west into Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park

Leaving Idaho Falls, we missed Hwy 20 leading to the west entrance of Yellowstone and instead found ourselves 40 miles out of our way on Hwy 15. Checking the map it became apparent that there were no paved roads connecting the two highways and that we would have to backtrack to Idaho Falls. Taking a second look at the map, we noticed a dirt and gravel road which would intersect with Hwy 20 some 75 miles to the east. After taking a vote among the four of us, we headed east. The first 20 miles we did not see another car and we reminded each other of those who had taken such a road at their peril. This mistake proved to be an exciting and beautiful adventure.....beautiful scenery, amazing wildlife, brilliantly colored autumn leaves, mountains, lakes, and streams. It culminated at Henry's Lake in Montana and onto Hwy 15 and Yellowstone.

  1. Really with the backroads??????? Do you guys think you are 20 years old again? Glad you found the highway safe and sound. Your pictures of Old Faithful are amazing. Love all the wind and fire pics as well. I'm thinking you are really getting the hang of that camera. Love you.
